Yom Hashoah Commemoration

April 25, 2005

On April 19th, 2005, the Anne Arundel community commemorated the Days of Remembrance or Yom HaShoah with the viewing of the movie, “Paper Clips.”  The movie was shown in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium of St. John’s College to Naval Academy and St. John’s student together with community members.  The result was several hundred people had the opportunity to see this incredible documentary.

A small community in rural Whitwell, Tennessee had the challenge of how to educate their Middle School students on the tragedy of the Holocaust.  Trying to comprehend the significance of 6 million Jewish victims knowing the number is unfathomable, the students came up with the idea to collect 6 million paper clips.  What started as a local project became an international effort transforming this town and many others while creating a lasting imprint of the horrors of the Holocaust.
