Daniel Heifetz and the Classical Band Concert

Sunday, August 25, 2002

Janne Heifetz, Edwin Greenberg, Daniel Heifetz, and Anna Greenberg spend some time after the sold out performance.

On Sunday, August 25th, about 400 people from the greater Annapolis areas were privileged to hear a world class concert of award-winning Daniel Heifetz and the six members of The Classical Band. Joining them for two numbers was soprano, Elena Heifetz (daughter of Daniel Heifetz). The concert was brought to Annapolis by the United Jewish Council of Anne Arundel County, the umbrella group of the 10 Jewish organizations in the county and also by the Heifetz International Music Institute. The magnificent two-hour concert was held at the Kneseth Israel Synagogue where the theme was "Voice of a People: The Jewish Soul – Journey of the American Jew." The planning committee was chaired by Anna Greenberg who was assisted by nine others coming from the various member organizations.

The audience was treated with the rich music of the "old country," through the suffering tones of Holocaust pieces, to the magnificent soul embracing tunes of that quintessential American composer and Jew, George Gershwin. All who attended relished in the music and the insightful commentary that Daniel Heifetz added to the afternoon. The community can only hope that these Heifetz concerts once again become a regular event in this community as they were previously.

Anne Arundel County Executive Janet Owens, Jonathan Goldsmith, and Event Chairperson Anna Greenberg.

Annapolis Mayor Ellen Moyer welcomes some Naval Academy Midshipmen to the concert.
