“We call This Place Home: Jewish Life in Maryland’s Small Towns"

Tuesday, March 7, 2006

The local community celebrated a wonderful exhibit in the Miller Senate Office building titled, “We call This Place Home: Jewish Life in Maryland’s Small Towns.”  On Tuesday, March 7, 2006, the United Jewish Council together with the Jewish Museum of Maryland, hosted this wonderful exhibit showing some of the history and experience of Jewish life in Maryland’s small towns.

Certainly, Annapolis used to be one of those small towns and many of the surrounding communities with their Jewish populace are present day representatives of what the exhibit shows.  Over 100 community people and state legislators gathered to hear from those who experienced what the exhibit expressed.  Besides hearing from a state senator, a delegate, the Jewish Museum Director, the group was fortunate to hear from Annapolis native son, retired Judge Eugene Lerner (pictured below left), a well-known, local Jewish citizen. It was an interesting an educational time for all.  The exhibit will remain at the Miller Senate Office Building through November 2006.
