Congressional Forum for the 2004 ElectionsOctober 27, 2004On October 27, 2004, six days before Election Day, your United Jewish Council sponsored a historic event together with the League of Women Voters of Anne Arundel County: the only Congressional Forum where all 12 candidates participated from the four districts which lay across Anne Arundel County. Over 200 people from across the community came to participate along with two newspapers. There were four candidates each from the Democrats and Republicans, three from the Green Party and one from the Constitution Party.
Above: Eleven of the twelve candidates make their way up on the stage. The evening was exciting yet civil, informative yet entertaining. Everyone walked out knowing time was well spent on this most worthy, professionally conducted event. It was held at Congregation Kneseth Israel and moderated by Joan Paik, former League of Women Voters state president. The end result was that all the incumbents won – but it was an interesting process.
Participants were as follows, by District and alphabetically (winners have an asterisk before their name): District 1: Kostas Alexakis (D) and *Wayne Gilchrest (R) District 2: Jane Brooks (R), *Dutch Ruppersberger (D), Keith Salkowski (G) District 3: Patsy Allen (G), *Benjamin Cardin (D), Robert Duckworth (R) District 5: Bob Auerbach (G), *Steny Hoyer (D), Brad Jewitt (R), Steve Krukar (C)
