UJC-AAC Chanukah Celebration

Rabbi Moshe Weisblum leads the children from Aleph Bet Jewish Day School and Daniel Rothman Consolidated School in festive Chanukah melodies.

On the fifth night of Chanukah, Tuesday, December 3rd, the United Jewish Council hosted a community-wide Chanukah celebration.  The event featured menorah lighting, holiday singing, story telling and treats for the children, all near the Sears/movie ticket court area of the Westfield Shoppingtown Center Annapolis (AKA Annapolis Mall). Students from both the Aleph Bet Jewish Day School, sponsored by several area synagogues, and the Daniel Rothman Consolidated Hebrew School sang a number of selections assisted by Rabbi Moshe Weisblum of Congregation Kneseth Israel. Ellyn Becker, Educational Director of Temple Beth Shalom educated the children by telling them the story of Chanukah. Rabbi Leibe Hoffman of Congregation Kol Ami led the assembled group in the blessings over the lights in both Hebrew and English, then flipping the switch for the first one. 

The Anisman family gets the honor of "lighting" the menorah, left to right KImberly, parents Pam and David, and Benjamin.

Five area families "lit" the five other lights of the menorah, one for each night of the holiday to that point. A wonderful time was had by all of the approximately 200 participants, especially the many children and holiday shoppers who just stopped by to stop, listen and learn.
